Leading the Redesign Fleet Management for Modern Operations
I joined the Fleet Management project to overhaul an outdated, bloated platform used by specialized operations teams. With no designer previously involved, the UX was fragmented and developer-driven. Working under a tight deadline, I led a hands-on redesign focused on unifying navigation, modernizing the interface, and adapting an existing design system for fast, scalable delivery.
The Goal
Redesign a complex, outdated fleet management tool into a modern, user-friendly, and scalable interface. The aim was to simplify nested designs, reduce configuration toggles, unify overlapping features, and ensure full mobile usability — all while accelerating development using an existing design system.
TL;DR — S.O.A.R.
Situation
Fleet Management was running on an outdated UI with fragmented navigation, developer-driven UX, and no design system in place.
Objective
Redesign the platform with a streamlined navigation, modern interface, and improved mobile usability—without delaying development.
Action
Conducted a discovery workshop, unified the navigation, applied a scalable design system, and redesigned key screens with a user-first approach.
Result
A clean, intuitive interface ready for rollout—improving clarity, reducing complexity, and accelerating development without compromising UX.

Outcome
A Cleaner, Faster, More Scalable Fleet Management Tool
Within two months, we transformed a fragmented system into a modern, user-friendly interface with clear navigation and improved usability.
Ready for future development and client rollout.

Problem
Outdated UX Slowed Adoption and Development
Fleet Management was running on an outdated, bloated interface with no design system in place. Usability suffered across devices, and the experience was shaped more by developer constraints than user needs. A redesign was urgently needed to modernize the product and enable faster delivery.
The Opportunity
The redesign offered a clear opportunity to simplify a complex, cluttered platform into a user-friendly, modern interface. And to accelerate development while significantly improving usability across all devices.
More about the challenge
Identifying Core Challenges
- Outdated Interface:
Cluttered, inconsistent UI causing navigation challenges for users - No Design System:
Lack of scalable foundation or reusable components increased complexity - Developer-Led UX:
Early redesigns prioritized internal workflows over user needs - Feature Overload:
Overlapping features scattered across screens created confusion and complexity - Limited Resources:
Tight timeline and minimal design input constrained research and iteration

Research & Discovery
Fast Discovery to Enable Immediate Design Execution
Due to the tight timeline, we focused on rapid onboarding and hands-on collaboration instead of extensive upfront research. Together we conducted a discovery workshop to understand the software’s purpose, the team’s goals, and existing pain points. This allowed us to identify key usability issues and prioritize critical design decisions early.
Key Insights
The product’s complexity came from overlapping features, unclear structure, and a lack of UX thinking. Making simplification, clarity and usability the top priorities.

What We Did
- Discovery Workshop:
Facilitate a focused session with stakeholders to align on goals and constraints - Lean Research:
Skip formal UX research to accelerate delivery while staying aligned - Design Foundation:
Adopt NextGen design system for consistency and rapid implementation - Knowledge Mining:
Collaborate closely with PMs and developers to extract domain expertise - UX Prioritization:
Focus on improvements balancing functionality with technical feasibility
This lean discovery approach ensured we could move fast without losing alignment on user needs and business goals.

Process
Designing a Scalable UX on a Compressed Timeline
With speed as a priority, we focused on high-impact decisions that could be implemented quickly. Leveraging the foundation of the NextGen Transit app, I adapted the design language to fit the specific needs of Fleet Management. Collaboration with PMs and developers was ongoing, enabling iterative feedback and fast, aligned execution.
Key Milestone
Navigation concept and core UI overhaul completed within 2 months.
